Subtext Premium FAQ

Last fall, we announced that Subtext would become a premium-only app on July 1, 2015. Our transition-to-premium plan aimed to give schools all of the 2014-2105 school year to prepare; it asked schools to discontinue purchases through iTunes and begin/continue purchasing through the Renaissance Learning sales team and platform.

As our transition date of June 30th quickly approaches, we have some updated information to share with you.

NEW! Subtext is now part of Accelerated Reader 360

Beginning on July 1st, 2015, Subtext will become part of Accelerated Reader 360. Essentially this means that we’ll be closing down the Subtext application in the App Store in early July and ALL Subtext features will be accessible as part of the Accelerated Reader 360 program. All Subtext customers will be able to purchase AR 360 for the price of Subtext: $3 per student per year. Once you purchase your new AR 360 account, your old Subtext account can be synced with your old Google account, so you preserve any previous work.

Purchasing customers will be given Accelerated Reader 360, which includes:

What will happen to the Subtext iOS app?

Anyone still using Subtext as of 6/30/15, will be alerted that they should install the Accelerated Reader 360 app available in the App Store. Accelerated Reader 360 iOS and Subtext iOS are identical in every way; however, the AR 360 program includes even more features.

How do I order AR 360 (formerly Subtext)?

If you already work with a Renaissance sales representative, you can email or call them to order AR 360. Otherwise, please email subtext@renaissance.com or call 800-338-4204 and explain that you’re a Subtext customer who would like to purchase licenses for the 2015-2016 school year. We will guide you through the necessary steps, but in general:

How do I get set up in AR 360?

Unlike the Subtext app, which let administrators assign licenses inside the app, the new process will provide you with a hosted site (to safely and securely store your data) and a set of user names and passwords that work across the iOS and Web applications. NEW: Follow our screen shot guide to see how to set up accounts in Renaissance Place.

After you’ve ordered AR 360, someone from our Implementation team will contact you with instructions on setting up your site and usernames. You will need to have an administrator from your school:

Customers who want to use the iOS app will enter their RPID into the iOS login screen, then each student will log in with their new Renaissance Place user name and password. If you previously logged into Subtext with a Google account and have work in your old Subtext account that you’d like to transfer to your new Renaissance account, please follow these instructions. If you were using Edmodo, please read below.

How do I connect my Google account?

After you’ve set up your new AR 360 account, you can sync the work in your old Subtext account via the “Settings” menu in the app. Simply tap “Connect to Google” and log in with the same Google account you used to log into Subtext. This will essentially merge your old work (notes, library, assignments) with your new account. Please visit our Help page for more info.

What if I was using Edmodo?

Because the Subtext Edmodo application was essentially an alternative login for Subtext, this application will be discontinued as of 6/30/15. If Edmodo was your sole Subtext login, please contact us after your purchase is complete, and we’ll manually merge your old Edmodo account with your new account in AR 360. If you were using Google as a Subtext login as well as Edmodo, please connect your Google account, per the instructions above.

What if I ordered 2015-2016 Subtext licenses last year?

If you bought Subtext and you have no other Renaissance products:
Your account will be manually adjusted effective 7/1/15 to show that you own Accelerated Reader 360. You will need to sign a hosted agreement (which you can fax to us at 877-988-8051), and you will continue to receive $3 per-student pricing. Because the Google and Edmodo logins will be discontinued as of 6/30/15, you will need to install the Accelerated Reader iOS app from the App Store and login with your Renaissance Place login. An Implementation coordinator will assist you with setting up those Renaissance Place logins. Please call us at 800-338-4204 if you have any questions.

If you bought Subtext but you *also* own other Renaissance products:
Your account will be manually adjusted effective 7/1/15 to show that you own Accelerated Reader 360. As you do with other programs, you’ll set up Courses and Classes, and make sure the correct students have accounts set up for Renaissance Place. Because the Google and Edmodo logins will be discontinued as of 6/30/15, you will need to install the Accelerated Reader iOS app from the App Store and login through your Renaissance Place login. Please call us at 800-338-4204 if you have any questions.

What if I ordered Subtext through iTunes?

All Subtext iOS licenses purchased through iTunes expire on 6/30/15. Please call us at 800-338-4204 to purchase licenses for the 2015-2016 school year.
